Welcome Adam Weatherby!

We are thrilled to welcome Adam, who has recently joined the Commercial team as Partnerships Manager. He will be responsible for engaging and managing relationships with a broad portfolio of partners. This newly created position is a strong addition to our growing team, giving us further opportunities to maximise our offering to members, whilst supporting our important existing tour operator partnerships. We asked Adam a few questions below to find out more about his plans for the role and to introduce him to the Partnership.

What will your role involve?

I will be working to strengthen our relationships with tourist boards and hotel groups. The goal is to increase the number of partners who market with us, and thus increase enquiries and sales across the whole membership. I will also be working to secure as many fam trip invitations for members as possible, so I hope that will keep my popularity levels high!

Could you tell us about your travel background?

I have worked in travel for 20 years. I started as a travel agent, working for Going Places and First Choice, and then moved into working for destinations as a Trade Relations and Partnerships Manager. I have worked for South African Tourism and Visit Britain. I have also represented Hawaii, New York State, Visit Flanders and Austin in Texas. In between all this, I also worked for Caribbean hotels in St Lucia, Dominican Republic and Mexico, and as a BDM for a tour operator.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role at Advantage?

I think having the opportunity to make a real impact for members is very exciting. I have always believed that travel agents offer destination marketers wider opportunities than simply training, incentives and fam trips. Whilst these are all important parts of becoming better at selling travel, destinations have never really understood how to utilise the customer base of travel agencies as a marketing tool. I feel an important part of my role is to raise their awareness that our members have millions of customers who have a relationship with and trust their agent to help them decide on their next holiday destination.

What is your favourite thing about working in travel?

It’s a cliché to say it, but the people make this a special industry. In my new role, I am already coming across people again that I have known for 15 years, and you just pick up where you left off.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I have a real soft spot for Africa and have visited most countries in eastern and southern Africa. I have always wanted to see gorillas in the wild, so I would have to say Rwanda is up there on my bucket list.
