A day in the life of…a BDM

Knowing our members and understanding their business challenges is at the heart of everything we do. Our Business Development team plays a vital role in ensuring members have all the tools and support they need. This is more crucial than ever as our increasingly diverse membership continues to grow. Senior Business Development Manager Emily Shannon joined Advantage last year and has recently been promoted to lead our Advantage Managed Services (AMS) proposition. In her day-to-day role, she looks after our managed service members in the north but will soon be recruiting for support in looking after members in the south. We asked Emily to tell us what a typical day involves, supporting members, and what her favourite snack is!

I prepare for the day by: Making a to-do list and trying my best to work through it.

I can’t leave the house without: My laptop, phone and good lipstick!

On the average day I:

• Check in with my key accounts

• Support with any queries

• Offer friendly support and advice

• Make recommendations personal to each member’s business

• Help members make the right commercial choices for their business

• Am on hand for all members!

We now have just under 80 AMS members, representing around 17% of our total membership, and this is continuing to grow!

My favourite thing about seeing members is: The innovation and commitment they have to their businesses, teams and customers which I find really inspiring, it's great to see members thriving.

My favourite snack is: A crunchie!

The way I relax is: Travel. I love to get on a plane and am open to going anywhere!

The AMS model allows agents to focus on sales whilst we handle all supplier payments and back-office administration, protects all consumer monies in trust, and provides merchant services so agents do not need to negotiate card fees themselves with providers.
