Scheduled Airline Failure Indemnity (SAFI)
Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance has proven to be an invaluable protection for Advantage members. Most recently the dramatic collapse of Globespan highlighted the deficiency of the current arrangements for providing consumer protection...
Out of the 4,500 passengers stranded overseas only 1,100 were on packages and therefore protected under the ATOL scheme. The remaining 3,400 seat only passengers had to pay their own way home unless they were fortunate enough to be covered for airline failure through their travel insurance or through their travel agents Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance (SAFI).
Fortunately, a good deal of Advantage members in Scotland were able to look after their “Globespan” customers as they had protection under the Advantage SAFI scheme. The scheme allowed agents to claim for any monies they paid to the failed airline enabled them to refund or more importantly re-book their clients flights.
